It was a bank holiday in Ireland. Already, the reviews of The Dark Knight were glowing. Already it was box office gold, so on a visit to my In-Laws in Wexford, I decided to go and see it. Wexford sports a wonderful new Omniplex cinema and now has 6 Digital cinemas and popcorn galore. The first snafoo in my way was although I thought I had booked tickets online, I hadn't so as my wife queued up for popcorn I went to tell her the bad news- we didn't have tickets and the show was sold out. However, the manager came over to us and helped out and we got the last two. Many thanks! The only problem with this was that we had to sit smack bang up-front and my missus joked that we might as well be in the movie we were so close. As for the movie itself; how good was it? Well, first things first. It's a long movie; over two and a half-hours long. It felt very much like Titanic. Never a dully momoment and it was packed with lots of amazing stunts and great segways. The characters were all spot on because the dialogue was so good. The first comment I'd make is that this movie is 'dark'. I'd be nervous to let my younger kids go see it because it can be pretty brutal in parts so be warned it's a 15A movie and it really lives up to this rating! It's not as bad as the 1980's. Most of the bad language had been weaned out but the criminal intent of the characters is there. Christian Bale is reliable and a bit wooden but hey he's batman. Heath Ledger is awesome as the Joker and the movie is determined to not follow a standard plot and breaks new ground for the franchise. The movie never felt boring and I look forward to the next one. Highly Recommended. Go see it... if you haven't already.
